* JOB TITLE: Assistant Controller


* POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the accounting, financial reporting and auditing for the facility and reports to the Plant Controller. Interfaces with Alcoa Corporate Accounting and Financial Shared Services to ensure accuracy and compliance with system reporting and company policy. Acts as a resource to line management regarding operations and financial impacts of decisions. Perform a wide variety of regular and recurring accounting functions of a complex nature in accordance with generally accepted accounting standards, regulations, laws and company policies and practices.

* NATURE AND SCOPE: This position is required to maintain and complete various financial records and statements that comprise the overall financial statements of the corporation. The incumbent is responsible for various cost accounting and financial accounting assignments. This position requires analytical, interpretive, and evaluative problem solving skills of a moderately complex nature. The position is also responsible for preparation of numerous management reports concerning costs, variances, budgets, income, cash, and costs forecasts and inventories. The position requires effective human relation skills because of the need for extensive data gathering from company peers and meeting with other company contacts concerning financial reports and results.


1. Maintains a combination of general accounting, budget, or cost systems.

2. Analyzes and assists management in interpreting accounts and records. Analyzes, reports, and recommends actions related to cost control. Provides input to the monthly forecasting process.

3. Supports development of financial budgets and controllable costs. May assist in preparing management reports such as financial reports and summaries, production cost variance reports, capital project reports and others in a timely manner and according to management information requirements. Such statements and reports are reviewed and approved by the Plant Controller.

4. Prepares financial statements and reports in a timely manner according to corporate policies, generally accepted accounting principles, and applicable regulations and laws. Participates in monthly closing activities including developing and posting Journal Vouchers.

5. Conducts in-depth cost accounting analyses for individual owners and identifying all costs.

6. Maintain and foster positive labor relations and communications both within the Accounting Department and among the plant's various departments.

7. Completes and updates ASAT requirements on an ongoing basis including performing SOX testing for assigned Financial Business Processes.

8. Provides DI (Degrees of Implementation) savings analysis and reporting to managers.

9. Participates as required in various audits (integrated, partnership, sales/use tax, etc.). Perform post expenditure audits.

10. Serves as back-up for the Plant Controller.


Bachelor s Degree in Accounting or Finance

2-3 years accounting experience

Excellent data skills, particularly as it pertains to Microsoft Excel

Ability to act independently, exercising independent decision making and fulfilling responsibilities with minimal supervision

Ability to focus and prioritize to meet deadlines with high attention to detail

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Excellent supervisory and teamwork skills with the ability to work with others in a professional manner

Exceptional organizational and time management skills

Ability to build relationships and interact with all levels of the organization

Oracle and Hyperion experience preferred

Cost accounting experience a plus
